Helping new and prospective people to the longhaired
miniature dachshund with information is one of our goals. Whether on the phone,
at a Northwest all-breed show or specialty, or now on the internet, we enjoy
talking about dogs and dachshunds in particular!. For new, old, and
perhaps future friends in this delightful, dashing and dapper breed, our website
exchanges information about our longhaired miniature dachshunds, future
breeding and show prospects, and reminisce about our foundation dogs of Calista.
Contact us about the occasional availability of a home
raised and trained young adult or an adult dog that will make a great family
pet.
This year we are very excited about seeing all of our friends and their
beautiful dogs at the Dachshund National in Riverside, CA this fall.
As we enjoy showing our dogs so much we also realize that we have to give
back to our sport. For that reason I will show a little less this year so I can
serve our club as 2010 and 2011 show chairman.
One of the things that I am so proud of is our club participating in the
AKC’s Canine Partner program. This allows all dogs, including mixed breeds to
participate in performance events. I encourage everyone no matter what kind of
dog, purebred or mixed breed to try a performance event with their dog. It is
the best way to connect and have a great time.
I am thoroughly enjoying sharing my knowledge with others by teaching
handling classes for our club. I am also the acting breeder referral person for
our club. In this position I help people who are seeking healthy pets find
responsible breeders through education and the breed’s national club. I also try
to educate people about dogs, so they get the correct dog and do not end with an
unwanted or problem dog. We encourage everyone to take obedience classes to
socialize their dog and build the best relationship with their pet.
Another area that I have been getting involved with is legislation. I believe
in “punish the deed not the breed”. I believe in responsible dog ownership. I
also believe that I have to work to keep the rights of dog owners in place. I
support animal cruelty legislation. I hope that by working hard I can help my
granddaughter keep her rights to enjoy the sport that we both love.
I hope that you enjoy your dogs as much as we do.
Thank you, Michaelle
Sincerely,
Michaelle Sande
